Sermon: “Gratitude Changes Everything!” Did your mom make you write thank you notes? The people receiving the thanks feel, “It made my day!” It is also very good for the sender’s heart and soul. When Jesus healed the lepers, only 1 in 10 came to thank Him. It is still true today that only about 10% of people say thank you to those who have helped them. Sermon: “God’s Assurance”. Habakkuk was the doubter of the Old Testament. He didn’t understand, but he trusted that God would make it clear for him. The righteous would live by faith. How can people be made right with God? In the Old Testament only a few of the elect would get into eternal life. In the New Testament, God so loved the world that we only need to believe. Some think good works will get them eternal life. But they won’t. Nobody can get to perfect righteousness alone. It is by God that we will get into heaven. We do good works out of gratitude to God. Sermon: You are Valuable to Christ. The heart of the Bible is the gospel. The heart of the gospel is Christ. The heart of Christ is the cross. Listening to some, we are not worth Christ’s sacrifice. It is hard to understand that God sees us as worth the sacrifice to redeem us. God sees in us something very very special. The starts are at our fingertips. We have potential within us. When we realize this, we can take up the cross and follow Jesus. We need the message of the cross. God sees infinite potential in each of us, by love and commitment. Rev. James L. Sermon: “Being Humble”. Jesus had a good sense of humor. He used hyperbole in His stories. People enjoyed hearing Jesus. He always had a smile on His lips and a twinkle in His eye. Jesus told people that when you are invited to a banquet take the lowest place and let the host ask you to take a place of more honor. This advise is practical and funny. Then Jesus told the host to only invite the poor and crippled to their next banquet and they would be blessed. Greatness is not measured by how much to have or earn; it is measured by how much to give away for others. Jesus humbled Himself for us on a cross. God exalted Jesus. Rev. James L. Sermon: “Feeling Like a Heal.” Healing was no small deal in Jesus’ day. Either you family cared for you or you were on your own. You went to the synagogue to beg. Sabbath healing created a dilemma. The leaders of the synagogue were just regular people like us. The Sabbath was just as special to Jesus as it was to the Jewish leaders. It is hard to keep a spiritual center with all the demands on us. We need to slow down and pause before answering each demand. Do not let your everyday schedule jerk you around. Keep the Sabbath and keep it holy. On the seventh day God rested and enjoyed creation. Even the slaves, animals, and guests got the Sabbath off. This was why the Pharisees were upset when Jesus healed on the Sabbath. Jesus enters our Sabbath and heals us. Rev. James L. Sermon: “Run the Race”. “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus.” (Hebrews) The church in Hebrews was full and vibrant, then negativity crept in. They were about to close the doors for good. By faith they saved the community, by keeping their eyes on Jesus. The people of the Bible were just like us, flawed. But we all have/had great faith in God. Everyone before us witnessed to their faith in God. We too will continue to witness and share the Good News. Rev. James L.
